Health and Wellness Counselling Services

The Health and Wellness Program is an NLAD service that aims to ensure Deaf/Hard of Hearing people throughout the province have access to mental health counseling that is culturally affirming and linguistically appropriate.

The Health and Wellness Program strives to:

  • Provide support and tools necessary for healthy self-agency/ abilities to engage in society and systems equitably.

  • Ensure safe and accessible psychological assessments, treatment, care, and navigation.

  • Promote and educate public mental health services about Deaf culture and language.

  • Strengthen self-empowerment & self-advocacy.

The Health & Wellness Program delivers:

  • Linguistically appropriate and culturally affirming mental health counselling.

  • Mental health intervention, treatment, and prevention.

  • Clinical case management as appropriate.

  • Consultations.

 

This program also provides one-to-one, direct counselling services by a registered psychologist who is immersed in Deaf culture. Sessions are provided in ASL.

 

It seeks to inform and work with other mental health services to build their knowledge and acceptance of Deaf culture and language.

 

Consultation services are provided to external agencies as appropriate.
