NLAD Family Communication Program

 

The Family Communication Program (FCP) is an NLAD service that aims to support families with Deaf/Hard of Hearing members by teaching them American Sign Language (ASL) and providing information about the Deaf/Hard of Hearing Community and its culture.

The FCP helps Deaf/Hard of Hearing children/youth grow into healthy, contributing citizens with access to opportunities in an equitable manner to their peers. It strives to Support language and literacy development for Deaf/Hard of Hearing children, Support healthy development  and communication for Deaf/Hard of Hearing children, Support/enable communication within families where there are Deaf/Hard of Hearing youth or members, and Provide critical early education/intervention for Deaf/Hard of Hearing Children.

The FCP delivers:

  • Instruction in American Sign Language (ASL) from certified ASL instructors in a safe, comfortable environment.

  • Information about and links to the Deaf/Hard of Hearing community and its culture.

  • Psychosocial Assessments (as intake), Psychological Assessments (as required),Linguistic Assessments (ongoing), plus ongoing assessments and intervention.

  • Family-unique curriculums and intervention plans.

  • Infant Program (in development)

  • Extended program to meet on-going/cultural needs of families as required.

  • Access to NLAD’s ASL Classes, beneficial to augment or saturate ASL instruction for some families.
