The Mission of the NLAD is to protect and promote the rights, needs and concerns of people who have severe hearing disabilities and are profoundly deaf within the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Goal of the NLAD are:

> To facilitate programs, services and activities that will improve the educational, recreational, social and cultural needs of the Deaf community in Newfoundland and Labrador.

> To preserve and promote American Sign Language (ASL) as the first language of the Deaf community.

> To empower the Deaf community and to preserve its culture as a linguistic minority.
